Welcome friends to the NEW DougMeade.com!
Over the years we’ve seen countless revisions to the creative of the site.
We’ve seen featured sections come and go.
And we’ve had a lot of fun.
This new version is more than just a cosmetic update.
It represents a fundamental change in how I will use / Update the site.
Here’s why a change was in order:
As you no doubt noticed the site went quite a while with no real updates happening.
I realized a few things:
1) As I got older (especially after I had kids) the frequency with which I could sit down and write a well thought out blog of any appreciable size decreased.
2) Video production was even more difficult to squeeze into the schedule.
3) As I got older it became increasingly “unfortunate” for the quote-board and antics on DougMeade.com to show up whenever anyone Googled me (or my friends).
4) Now that I am a father I have to worry about posting news, and pics of my children to be found by every weirdo out there on the interwebs.
Here’s how this new site will help:
1) I found a theme vs. built one.
I was tired of my old look & feel and wanted a new look to go along with the site’s new direction. Time being the #1 constraint for me I decided to find a nice theme instead of build a new one.
2) I’m leveraging twitter … A LOT!
Since I’ve reluctantly resigned myself to the fact that I’m not likely to create in-depth blogs on anything close to a regular basis I’ve integrated my site with my twitter account.
When I have something worth mentioning I can do so quickly and concisely in 140 characters or less. The updates show up in twitter and here on DougMeade.com. I can even do this from my phone.
It helps me keep folks up to date by removing the guilt around making a “good” blog post.
Also it provides a cool way for everyone to keep up with news here on DougMeade.com and off. All you have to do is follow me on twitter and you’ll see all my updates & blog posts.
3) I’m leveraging Flickr & Facebook.
I’m no longer updating photos in six places.
In the past I was always looking to build a cool photo gallery here on DougMeade.com.
No More.
If you want photos - you’ll find them on Flickr.
(there’ also some on our various facebook pages)
4) I’m locking down photos.
Also the content on these third party sites are going to be locked down so that only “approved” people can see them.
If I’ve met you or interacted with you in some way you’re likely approved (or will be upon request).
